Looking for animal skull replicas?

3d printed skulls are ethical and safe to produce and use, and contain no bone.

Nearly limitless posibilities

Skulls from small animals like bats, shrew, mole, mice,... are generally extremely fragile, hard to prepare, mostly incomplete when found and hard to come by legally.
Many interesting species are protected (fortunately) and thus it is illegal to collect, transport, own or trade them.
3D printing is less detailed than the real thing with the existing technology but the replicas are stronger, 100% legal, cheap and the used plastic (PLA+) is 'bio degradable'.

The technology of 3D-printing has limits.
Very small features like the jugular bones of small bat species are so thin that those can be a challenge to print. Therefore, in live size prints I can add a little to the thickness of the jugular bones, to make them printable.

Further more, some models (made from ct-scans) lack features due to the state of the scanned specimen. So I adapt those to complete the skulls.

Perfect for educational purposes.

Rhinolophus ferrumequinum 5:1 and 1:1                           Myotis myotis 5:1 and 1:1

If greater detail and accuracy is necessary to study teeth and other small skull features, an enlarged model does the job. 'Handheld' with the real skull under the microscope or magnifying glass determination becomes "a piece of cake". Pointing to specific features on the big one is a lot easier than: "if you look just above the second molar, but a bit to the left if you turn the skull a bit an close one eye slightly,....". Personally I like the 5:1 enlargement for bats and small rodents, shrew etc.
Bigger is possible but does mostly not add much.

Gulo gulo (wolverine) in proces of making the model printable.

For the moment I can offer a limited selection of species, but I'm constantly working on other material. Next week your favorite animal skull could be on the list (What list, you ask? The price list off course!)

If you have any other requests, questions or ideas about size, material, color, glow in the dark, personalised logo, key chain,..... Let me know, I just might be able to make your wildest 3D dreams come true. (info@nobone.be)

Costomer's comments

- "Very happy with it! Turned out super nice too! Despite the very thinness of the skulls, they look beautiful!" - Nicole K. (The Netherlands)

- "Arrived! Still a bit different than expected. They look much more real than what I assumed. That's definitely positive. The level of detail is all super. Especially with the large skulls, the different teeth are perfectly visible, which is what I was hoping for most. That's what you need for determinations, and with life-size animals (or real skulls) this is almost impossible to see (or show)." - Wout W. (Belgium)

- "I've got them! They are great thanks so much. I was surprised how good the dentition came out - I think the greater horseshoe is my favourite I love the sagittal crest detail. Great work!" - Daniel H. (United Kingdom)

Hobby gone wild

What started as a fun hobby of a skull loving educator, turned into a crazy project, and a small business.

After getting a 3D printer and printing mostly $t#rw#rs stuff, a bat related talk I gave, inspired me to try printing a bat skull. I thought it might be cool to show a live sized bat skull next to an 5 times enlarged one....

Apparently printable 3D models of bat skulls are a rare comodity to find on-line.
So with some looking around, some finding on the web and hundreds of hours of 3D modeling, I now am able to offer most European bats and other animal skulls.

And more is on the way............
